Joint Statement in Response to Anti-Migrant Attacks

As a united front, we, the leaders of Sheffield's Voluntary, Community, Social Enterprise and Faith Sector, unequivocally condemn the recent far-right violence, including the attack on a hotel in Rotherham sheltering asylum seekers. Racism, Islamophobia, and hate have no place in our community or anywhere else.

Our communities have shown remarkable resilience and unity in the face of these attacks. We have actively engaged with them, providing support and working to promote safety. We stand united in our resolve to support all those affected and show solidarity with the Muslim, Black, Migrant, and Refugee communities in Sheffield.

Looking ahead, we are unwavering in our commitment to strengthening our collaboration. We will continue working together to support our communities, promote inclusivity, and ensure Sheffield remains a safe and welcoming place for all. Our focus extends beyond immediate response; we are building a strong community that stands firm against racism, hatred, and division. As a united front, we choose hope over hate. Together, we are committed to creating a brighter future for Sheffield.

We call on our political leaders to champion unity and respect, embody these values in their actions, and address the divisive rhetoric that has fuelled such violence. The actions of a few do not represent our city. Sheffield is, and will continue to be, stronger together.
