About Us
Over 38 years, our mission has been simple. To give money to community groups and transform lives in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. It’s a giving thing.
This has resulted in more than £37m given to community groups across South Yorkshire, thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses donating to South Yorkshire Community Foundation.
Funds can be used to support activities, projects and interventions, provide training, buy equipment, recruit skilled people or access resources that will make a positive difference to local communities.
However, during times of local or national emergencies, SYCF has stepped up to lead fundraising efforts and launch swift grant programmes to provide immediate support to communities throughout South Yorkshire. During the Covid-19 pandemic, SYCF distributed over £1.5m to community groups support people, including those deemed vulnerable, as the nation got used to a new way of living. Prior to that in November 2019, when heavy rain caused flooding in South Yorkshire, fundraising – which was matched by central Government and National Lottery Community Fund – reached over £1.4m, allowing 1,468 households and 14 community groups to be supported.
Working with local health stakeholders, SYCF have encouraged communities’ to open up on their views on important consultations, primarily focusing on people from ethnic minorities whilst including marginalised groups.
SYCF are part of the UK Community Foundation network, a membership organisation of 47 quality accredited Community Foundations that connect philanthropic people with local causes that matter to them. They are the only national network of charitable funders with a physical presence in every part of the UK.
