Forge Community Partnership
The Forge Community Partnership is dedicated to improving the quality of life of the residents of Hoyland and the surrounding areas in Barnsley.
The organisation’s Youth Partnership received grant funding of £1,100 from the Henry Boot Grassroots Endowment Fund for South Yorkshire to run youth led activities for the benefit of the wider community.
Eight members of the Youth Partnership formed a leadership committee and surveyed local people to find out what would most benefit families in the region. With their findings they tailored events and activities.
Their first action was to set up a Saturday morning social club for ages 8 to 19 year olds. Next, they set up a Digital Club on Wednesday evenings, which has proven so popular it is set to run until December 2018.
With the funding support they have also been able to run a number of events. In November 2017 they ran a party for ages 11 to 19 in half term . The event aimed to deter young people from anti-social behaviour by engaging them at an event just for them.
They have also run a completely free Christmas party for local families, a kids party in Summer 2018 and have their final event planned before everyone goes back to school in September 2018.
The events so far have gone some way to address social disconnect between young people by establishing clubs and working in partnership to deliver these events.
We have been able to engage with young people living in the more deprived areas of our community by providing easy and free access to events in the community.
Activities have also reduced youth nuisance by providing responsible social activities that young people can identify with and contribute to encouraging ownership.
