Third Sector organisations can paint a clearer picture with research grants from SYCF
11th March 2010
DEVELOPING a clearer picture of the Third Sector is on the agenda with a new ground-breaking fund from the South Yorkshire Community Foundation (SYCF).
The funding has been provided as part of the legacy funding from South Yorkshire Open Forum (SYOF) to help infrastructure organisations carry out research projects in the area.
It has been identified that the Third Sector could benefit from research to identify the key needs and characteristics that define the sector and how these may develop in the future.
Moira Cunningham, of SYOF, said: "South Yorkshire has an extremely vibrant and dynamic Third Sector, full of organisations and individuals who are committed to improving our area for those who live in it.
"As the needs of the voluntary sector are ever changing, we want to make sure that in partnership with SYCF we can leave this legacy to recognise our objective of being at the forefront of developing innovative and far reaching methods of helping the sector progress."
There will be four grants of £15,000 available, one each for Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.
"This sector is different in each of the four areas of South Yorkshire, so the separate area based grants will enable research to be carried out according to the specific nature of each borough.
"We want people to be creative about the bids that they put together, and think about how the money would be best used to add lasting value to the sector."
Only one organisation will be successful in receiving funding for each area, and Pauline Grice from SYCF expects the level of competition to be high.
She said: "The funding available will come as a huge boost to the Third Sector in South Yorkshire and we're confident there will be substantial interest.
"It will allow organisations to specifically look at their particular area and decide how they could best use the grant to create a clearer picture of the needs and nuances of the sector.
"We look forward to receiving applications from infrastructure organisations throughout the area that have great ideas for research projects that can add lasting value to the development of the voluntary sector."
Potential applicants should see the How to Apply section and follow the instructions.
